Classic soccer is played throughout the United States, South America, Mexico, Canada, Europe and much of the rest of the world. Players seeking to advance their skills beyond recreational level and aspiring to play in high school and beyond will enjoy Classic soccer. There are also opportunities for Classic players to play year around.

There are five levels of soccer. Premier is the most competitive level. Divisions 1 & 2 are next with Classic  I & II following. Teams are seeded during the Classic Qualifying and Premier Qualifying Tournaments, commonly called CQT and PQT. These tournaments are held in July August. These tournaments are held throughout the Portland Metropolitan Area and consist of an abbreviated game format.

A new process rule passed by the Oregon Youth Soccer Association in January 2006, allows Clubs to consider adding U10 players to its U11 teams on a case by case basis.  The Club's Coaching Director and OYSA must approve of this before it can happen.  Here is what the rule says:  A Club may allow up to 20% of the registered U10 players on a team to "play up" on a U11 team.  This includes U10 players playing on OYSA sponsored U11 league anad tournament play.  A Club should only do this when it is in the best interest of the player.  The 20% is a 'rounded up' number.  For example, if a U11 team has a roster of 12 U11 players, 3 U10 players could play on that team as well, there being a total of 15 players.   (The U10 birthdate table for 2007-08 is  8/1/96 - 7/31/97

Coaching Fees
Each team will have a professional coach as well as the experience of our Club Head Coach, Jim Brazeau.  Coaches are paid from May - April.

All Administrative Costs WUSC has a full-time Club manager and part time administrator to ensure that all needs are met throughout the year.

All US Club fees These include Team, Player, Coach, and Team Manager registrations, player cards, insurance, and  league registration fees for fall and summer, and end of season tournament fees.

Equipment Teams are provided with all necessary team training equipment, including game and practice balls, cones, pennies, etc.

Facility Fees WUSC leases the Athey Creek soccer fields under a long-term mortgage agreement, which includes ongoing maintenance and upkeep of the fields. This cost is included in the registration fee, as are the fees incurred to rent the school district’s turf fields at West Linn and Wilsonville High Schools. In addition, other facilities are often needed by teams throughout the year which require usage fees and lighting costs.

Expenses NOT included in the club registration fee which each classic player will incur. These may include (but are not limited to) the following:

Summer Tournaments -
Most teams will enter 3-4 summer tournaments.  Players split the entry fees which average $450-500 per tournament.
All club teams teams will enter the two tournaments sponsored by Willamette United.  Those tournaments are the
Summit Mortgage Challenge Cup June 19-20th and the Nike Mt. Hood Challenge Tournament August 19-21.  Families should schedule their summer vacations around those dates.

Team Uniform Each player is required to purchase the WUSC classic uniform kit available through Tursi’s Soccer. Approximate cost is $110 (this includes two jerseys, a pair of shorts, and two pairs of socks). Considering factors such as player growth and style availability lifespans, a player can expect to get 2-3 years out of a uniform kit.  Optional uniform items may be a team warmup suit and team bag – approximate costs $100 and $30 respectively.

Personal travel expenses Some teams may be required to travel during the fall and/or spring season to locations that require overnight stay. In such cases, teams may carpool and appoint chaperones to travel with the team. Typically, a team does not travel more than 1-2 times during the season. Expenses such as lodging, travel costs, and meals would be incurred for these occasions.  It is common for team members to share the coach's expenses for such travel.

E
nd of Season Celebrations -  Each team decides how much to collect from the players for a party and possible coaches' gifts.

Classic soccer is designed for the serious soccer player who is seeking a higher level of competition and skills, and who is most likely aspiring to play the game in high school and beyond. The vast majority of high school soccer players have trained and played in a classic soccer program.  It should come as no surprise that playing classic soccer requires a serious commitment to the team and to the Club, from both the player and the player’s family.
